Residents, councillors and families in Littleport remembered those who lost their lives in combat at a moving ceremony to mark the Royal British Legion’s centenary year.
Those who attended included past councillors like Grenville Goodson, Cllr Clive Webber, leader of Littleport Parish Council and Cllr David Ambrose Smith, who represents Littleport on Cambridgeshire County Council.
Cathy Gibb-de Swarte, general secretary at the Littleport Society and publicity officer Lyn Gibb-de Swarte were there, while Margaret McGowen, secretary of the Royal British Legion’s Littleport branch, was present.
They told East Cambs planners: “It is already very congested as there are a lot of vehicles parked on the roads.”

They also raised concerns about noise issues and potential vandalism to the building. I agree there should be some facilities for children and young people in the village but would question whether this is the right location?
Another resident concerned by lack of lighting and anti-social behaviour argued that it would seem inappropriate for this venue to host parties beyond times that young children typically go to bed.
The document, prepared by chartered architect Andrew Fleet, the applicant’s agent, says: “The ’Port Youth Group’ is an all-inclusive youth group run by volunteers and funded completely by grants.
“At present the group meets in a small room to the rear of the Ex-Serviceman’s Club, which they have totally outgrown.
“Other facilities in the village are either not suitable for youth groups and tend to be expensive to hire, for a group which relies totally on grant funding.”
“Many of the village teenagers are now schooled in the village and any stimulation outside school hours needs to be provided on the school campus or within the community.”
