Summer camp season for youth is back at Fort Hays State University. After all youth camps were canceled a year ago because of the pandemic, youth from near and far are gathering on campus this summer to participate in a myriad of activities.
On weekdays during June and July, youth can be seen making their way across campus, on their way to participate in some sort of camp, ranging from science to athletics, from math to music.
Those interested in math or science have the opportunity to enroll in programs such as robotics or engineering, through the Science and Mathematics Institute (SMEI) or the Kansas Academy of Math and Science (KAMS).

It is hot, hot, hot! Of course the first day of summer camp we re going to start a heat wave, Greendale YMCA Executive Director Christina Puleo said. Download our mobile app for iOS or Android to get alerts for local breaking news and weather.
For the kids at the Greendale YMCA s camp on Monday, when the temperature topped 90 degrees for the second day in a row in Massachusetts, it meant water, water, water! she said. As hot weather continues, people across New England are trying to stay cool.
Between swimming in the indoor pool to running through the splash pad outside, the goal was to stay cool and protected from the hot sun, even as the temperature rises and it s expected to, with the heat index going above 100 through Wednesday.
