This years’ Probation Services Week Theme is “Restoring Trust, Creating Hope.” The work the employees of the Los Angeles County Probation Department do makes a true difference in the lives of people by using evidence-based rehabilitation that helps people achieve long-term success and sustainable community safety. As of Thursday morning, it is unclear how many of the catalytic converters were stolen specifically from Santa Clarita. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have made several arrests within the last month connected to catalytic converter thefts. However, it is unknown if the past suspects had any connection to the individuals arrested in Wednesday’s operation. Catalytic converters are attached to a car’s exhaust system, and are targeted because they contain precious metals and can be “scrapped” for a quick profit, according to Arriaga. The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has partnered with the City of Santa Clarita and launched “Guard That Auto” campaign to combat the increase in grand theft auto and catalytic converter thefts, according to Arriaga. ....
During the seven-day operation, the LAPD made 91 arrests, the Long Beach Police Department made 13 arrests, the L.A. Regional Human Trafficking Task Force made 36 arrests and the Pomona Police Department made five arrests. Statewide, 39 victims of human trafficking were rescued during the operation, including 13 juveniles, officials said. In Los Angeles County, 14 victims of human trafficking were rescued, 12 by the LAPD and two by the Pomona Police Department. Captain Michael Hannemann of the Los Angeles County Sheriff s Department s Special Victims Bureau highlighted four significant incidents that occurred during the operation, including the rescue of three victims and the arrest of man accused of trafficking them in Los Angeles. ....
On behalf of more than two dozen partner agencies, Assistant Director in Charge Kristi K. Johnson of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office announced the results of “Operation Lost Angels,” an initiative which began on January 11 and recently culminated in the recovery of 33 children. During January Human Trafficking Awareness Month the FBI worked with the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and more than two dozen law enforcement and non-governmental partners to identify, locate, and recover missing children, particularly those who have been or were suspected of being sexually exploited and/or trafficked. Of the 33 children recovered in Operation Lost Angels, eight were being sexually exploited at the time of recovery. Two were recovered multiple times during the operation while on the “track,” a common term used to describe a known location for commercial sex trafficking. ....
