A series of health & wellbeing podcasts have been produced for County Longford, this follows the similar launches in the neighbouring counties of Laois, Offaly & Westmeath.
These podcasts capture a wide range of diverse and interesting conversations with a range of professional staff working across the Statutory and Community and Voluntary sector in the Midlands.
Guests include John Lonergan, former Governor of Mountjoy Prison and Author. These through-provoking conversations give fascinating insights into the experience and knowledge gained by these staff working across communities.
An example of topics includes: It Takes a Village - the role communities can play in supporting the development of young people, Building a Brighter Future, Women in Farming, Building Resilience, Parenting, Men’s Health, The Impact of Domestic Abuse on Families & Children and Youth Mental Health.
New Laois Fine Gael councillor defeats competition to take committee seats

A new councillor joined Laois County Council at the online April meeting, but there was contention at his first meeting over his placement on eight different committees.
Ballybrittas farmer PJ Kelly was co-opted by Fine Gael replacing Cllr Tom Mulhall who had to step down mid-term for health reasons.
Chief Executive John Mulholland congratulated him.
“I extend a warm welcome to Laois County Council. It is quite an amount to take on board, the system of local democracy at work. I am glad to hear Tom is doing well and convey best wishes,” he said.

Community groups and local agencies have been encouraged to apply for money to realise their project by the local agency that has just been given €2.1 million to award in grant support in Laois.
Laois Partnership Company has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Rural & Community Development Heather Humphreys TD, of an increased allocation of €70 million nationally for 2021 & 2022 under the LEADER Programme.
Peter O’Neill, Laois Partnership Company Chairman said the money can help local people who are best placed to apply.

A Laois agency that provides vital help to community groups and businesses extra Leader funds announced by the Government will be needed to help rural areas after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Laois Partnership Company, a member of the Irish Local Development Network (ILDN) who represent the 35 Local Development Companies (LDCs) that delivers the LEADER Programme nationally. They have welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Rural & Community Development Heather Humphreys TD, and Minister for Agriculture Food & Marine Charlie McConalogue TD, of an increased allocation of €70 million in 2021 & 2022 for the LEADER Programme.
