District 19 state lawmakers jointly file for re-election as slate
Three state delegates and a state senator from Montgomery County filed on Wednesday for re-election in the 19th District.
Vaughn Stewart, Bonnie Cullison and Charlotte Crutchfield are running for another term as state delegates, while Ben Kramer is running for another four years in the state Senate.
The four lawmakers are running as a slate, which means they are fundraising as a group.
Stewart and Crutchfield were elected in 2018. Cullison was elected to the House in 2010.
Kramer served three terms in the House, starting in 2007, before taking a seat in the Senate in 2019.

The Gaithersburg City Council voted unanimously to deny a petition from the city’s Historic District Commission (HDC) Monday evening. The petition would have paved the way to designate 414 East Diamond Avenue a historic property.
After staff recommended the city not move forward with historic designation, the HDC voted differently to send a petition to the council on Feb. 24. The commission concluded the building had a reasonable probability for historic designation under Section 24-226(b) of the city code. Qualifications include the property’s character, heritage or cultural characteristics, as well as identification with a person or group who influenced society.

When the dust settled from the wild 2018 election one that saw dozens of Democrats compete for County Council seats Montgomery County wound up with just one woman on the nine-member council, Nancy Navarro (D).
Montgomery now has a record low number of female councilmembers, a trend at odds with the county’s reputation as one of the state’s most liberal bastions.
But that’s about to change, according to political professionals, activists and women who plan to run for the council in the 2022 elections including some who came within striking distance in the 2018 elections.
