Hutch council agrees to hear more on the idea of conversion therapy ban

The Hutchinson City Council may take up an ordinance banning conversion therapy within the city if it involves minors. Councilwoman Jade Piros de Carvalho said she was approached by a member of the Hutchinson Youth Council asking that the city take a look at the issue and she wondered if the council would consider it. Conversion therapy is an attempt to change the sexual orientation of an individual who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning (LGBTQ). It usually targets youth, Piros de Carvalho said. The Lawrence City Commission banned the practice in April and the city of Roeland Park did so last summer.
