Hotel scheme recommended for rejection );
PLANS for a five-storey hotel at Henley station car park have been recommended for refusal.
The town council’s planning committee says the proposed Premier Inn, which would have 115 rooms and would be built in a modern cladded style, is too big and out of its keeping with its surroundings.
At a meeting on Tuesday last week, members warned it would bring more traffic to the town’s medieval streets, which are already congested, and would dwarf neighbouring homes so urged South Oxfordshire District Council to turn it down.
Councillor Laurence Plant said the application by Blocwork, a partnership between the landowner Network Rail and developer Bloc Group, of London, was objectionable on “pretty much every available ground” and “totally out of keeping with the street scene.”
Steps into river area for wild swimming );
);
A DEDICATED wild swimming area on the River Thames in Henley is a step closer to becoming a reality.
The town council has agreed to investigate building steps leading to a shallow section of water off Marsh Meadows, near Marsh Lock, which would be marked off by buoys.
It will seek quotes and take advice on the council’s legal responsibilities if it were to go ahead as well as asking the Environment Agency for permission.
Councillor Kellie Hinton, who came up with the idea, presented a report to a meeting of the council’s recreation and amenities committee, which she chairs.
Leads may have to be used by river );
);
DOG owners might have to keep their pets on a lead at all times while walking in Mill Meadows in Henley.
The town council, which is responsible for the riverside beauty spot, is considering introducing the rule as part of a new policy for users of all the green spaces it manages.
It was proposed by Mayor Ken Arlett at a meeting of the council’s recreation and amenities committee.
He said: “We’ve all seen owners letting dogs go wherever they like to do their business so I’d like them to stay on a lead until they get further along the towpath to Marsh Meadows. There are so many kids playing on Mill Meadows and there’s nothing worse than having them come across dog mess.”
Holiday park owner pulls plans for timber lodges );
);
PLANS to introduce 24 timber lodges at Swiss Farm holiday park in Henley have been withdrawn.
Henley Town Council was one of a number of organisations that had opposed the development, saying it would be unacceptable in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Now managing director Joseph Borlase has pulled the plans, saying he needs more time to take the objections into consideration.
But he reaffirmed his belief that the development would be “a positive contribution to the biodiversity, amenity and economic productivity of Henley”.
Mr Borlase said: “We have decided to withdraw the lodge application to allow us time to investigate the issues raised by several interest groups and neighbouring estate owners during the consultation stage.
