Former resort workers along the Coral Coast who lost jobs because of COVID- 19 have taken up casual work in Lami Town so they can send their kids to school.
This, according to Lami District Council of Social Services president Asaeli Naisoro. He said people were taking desperate measures to put food on the table and buy stationery, uniforms, bags and sandals so their children can begin classes come January 19.
“Some have left their family in Nadroga to do odd jobs like working in a butchery in Lami Town because they need money to buy school stuff,” Mr Naisoro said.

There are high chances of students going to school hungry this year, as families are still affected by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This, according to Lami District Council of Social Services president Asaeli Naisoro during an interview at his home in Nasevou St, Lami.
Last year, he said thanks to organisations such as Munro Leys, free lunches were provided to students in primary schools in Lami as breadwinners from underprivileged families in the area were laidoff their jobs.
