LPO Kicks off 60th Season Next Month!

Jesse Kunerth Aren t you glad that so many things are starting to come back?  We just got the news today that the International Festival is back on for the Fall, and that next month will kick off the 60th Season for Lawton s Philharmonic Orchestra! Even better than that, they will be playing the concert version of Rogers and Hammerstein s musical, Oklahoma ! The concert will be Saturday night, August 28th, 7:30pm at the McMahon Auditorium.  What a wonderful venue for this performance.  If you have never experienced Orchestra music, this is a show that you don t want to miss, especially since we haven t been able to attend a show for over a year!

(TNN) - Several Lawton organizations are celebrating Wednesday after residents voted to increase the Hotel and Transient Guest Tuesday from 5.5 to 7%. Seventy-six percent of voters said yes to the tax increase, which goes into effect May 1 and lasts 10 years. Holiday in the Park started getting money from the hotel-motel tax two years ago. Last year, they received close to $28,000 from it. Chairperson for Holiday in the Park Melinda Kukurich-Grady said the organization relies solely on donations visitors give at the end of the park and small fundraisers.

Lawton Votes to Increase and Extend the Hotel-Motel Tax

Lawton went to the polls yesterday (02-09-21) and voted to increase and extend the Hotel-Motel Tax. Roughly 2,000 people voted and over 75% voted yes on the proposal so it passed by an overwhelming majority. The new Hotel-Motel Tax with go into effect on (05-01-21) and will be a 7% tax on all non-residents for local hotel, motel and Airbnb stays. The new Hotel-Motel Tax measure will be for a period of 10 years.

Tuesday, February 9, Lawton Fort Sill Voters will go to the polls to answer one question only.  Whether or not to renew the Hotel Motel Tax with it s proposed increase. It is important to know that the Hotel Motel Tax is not aimed at citizens of Lawton/Fort Sill, rather to visitors that come to our community and stay at one of our hotels.  They could be visiting family for the holidays, or for a tourism event, or just a weekend getaway to visit the Wichita Mountains or the Holy City and Medicine Park.  Whatever the reason, there are reasons why this tax is so important to Lawton/Fort Sill

(TNN) - The Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra will be putting on two performances in February. The first will broadcast on KUCO-FM Performance Oklahoma February 3 from 8 to 10 p.m. with a second show airing on February 6 from 8 to 10 p.m. The show can also be streamed online on KUCO-FM’s website. This performance will include works by Bach/Gounod, Kreisler, Vivaldi and Schubert led by conductor Jon Kalbfleisch and guest violinist David Kim.
