Eight arrested in south Lafourche drug busts, authorities say The Courier and Daily Comet Eight people were arrested and about $20,000 worth of heroin was confiscated in drug busts Wednesday in south Lafourche, police said today. Narcotics agents with the Lafourche Sheriff s Office received information that L.J. Danos, 38, of Larose was possibly in possession of a large amount of heroin, Sheriff Craig Webre said in a news release. Agents, with help from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff s Office, found Danos at a camper on East Main Street in Cut Off owned by Gary Robinson, 53, of Grand Isle, Webre said. Danos was present with several other individuals, including Richard Baldwin, 40, of Galliano and Charlene Blanchard, 33, of Grand Isle, who had active warrants, according to the Lafourche Sheriff s Office. ....

Here s how to apply Applications are being accepted for a scholarship program launched by Thibodaux City Marshal Calvin Cooks Sr. The two $500 scholarships are available for graduating high school students who live in the Thibodaux area and are planning to attend Nicholls State University or Fletcher Technical Community College. Applicants must be a permanent resident of Thibodaux and must be eligible for admission to the college listed on the application, officials said. The scholarships will only be paid for full-time undergraduate attendance at Nicholls or Fletcher. “The scholarship is a gift, not a loan, and is awarded to defray the rising costs of tuition and related expenses in higher education,” Cooks said. “There are no restrictions on the purposes for which the scholarship is spent.” ....
Lafourche man pleads guilty to multiple sex crimes A Lafourche man accused of sexually abusing five teenagers was sentenced to spend five years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges. Gregory Berthusen, 54, of Cut Off, pleaded guilty Jan. 27 to four counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and two counts of sexual battery, court records show. After Berthusen entered his negotiated pleas, District Judge John Leblanc sentenced him to five years on each charge. The sentences are running concurrently, or at the same time. He was originally charged Oct. 11, 2019, with molestation of a juvenile, two counts of felony sexual battery, three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery and three counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, the Lafourche Sheriff’s Office said. ....
