(News Release) On Tuesday, February 9, Robert Taylor announced he will retire from the position of CEO of United Supermarkets, LLC, on March 1, 2021, and Sidney Hopper, president of United Supermarkets, will assume all of the responsibilities of the CEO. Taylor will continue in an advisory role for the company as Executive Vice-President – Senior Advisor. Sidney Hopper, president of United Supermarkets, will take over duties after United Family CEO Robert Taylor retires in March 2021. (Source: KCBD)

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - For the past 75 years, the Lubbock-Area United Way have given hope across the South Plains. The non-profit celebrates its milestone after taking a hit from the pandemic.
It started at the ‘Community Chest’ in 1946.
“You know our mission is very simple: it’s giving people hope. And that’s what we’ve been doing for 75 years and that’s we plan to continue doing this year,” Vice President of Marketing and Communications Amanda McAfee said.

The City of Plainview will offer Loan-A-Tub tree disposal sites through Jan. 8. Those who want to discard of their Christmas trees can do so in the green containers located at 200 N. Columbia or in one of the yellow Loan-A-Tubs at the corners of 16th and Holiday, 2nd and Columbia, 18th and Galveston and Garland and Kermit Streets. The tubs will be removed on Jan. 8 but residents who have a tree to dispose of after that date can still do so by dropping it in the green containers or at the Landfill. The Landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. It’s located at 1031 County Road Y. Call (806)296-1100 for additional information.

City of Plainview offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the holidays. Administration offices including Unger Memorial Library, the Plainivew/Hale County Health Department and the Solid Waste Department will be closed. The library will also be closed on Saturday and on Jan. 1 and 2.
South Plains Church in Levelland is preparing for its 11th Free Wedding Weekends event on March 5 and 6. The event is meant to help couples facing financial struggles. The church will provide everything – service arrangements, floral items, photo services, wedding invites, an MP4 of the ceremony and a three-tier cake provided by United Supermarkets.
