Steve Huebert is sponsoring a bill requiring high school students take financial literacy and civics to graduate. A Kansas bill that would require a civics test and financial literacy course to graduate high school is awaiting the governor s signature or veto. Under the final version of House Bill 2039 passed out late last week, students would need to take courses on both subjects to graduate not immediately, but on a delayed timeline. A 60-question civics test would have to be taken and passed, and such civics instruction would have to be provided by next school year. But that civics exam will be a graduation requirement beginning in school year 2022-2023, not the next.
