The glory of reaching the finish line at the 45th annual Grandma’s Marathon this June will look and feel different than previous years.
Race officials announced Thursday that they will cutting their capacity in half from 20,000 runners to 10,000 runners.
In response, WDIO spoke to officials and runners about their hopes and expectations for the marathon.
Shane Bauer, Executive Director of Grandma’s Marathon, said their team is grateful to be able to hold the marathon at all and are working closely with experts in the running world to make the races as safe as possible.
“We’re getting into the crowd science of this, working with an expert from Europe. This is his role around the world, where he works with races to determine how many people you can have at a start and how many people are going to end up coming through a finish line based on those numbers,” Bauer said.
