By David George, Local Democracy Reporter for Hampshire £200k grant made available to help Hampshire s most vulnerable VULNERABLE and marginalised people in Hampshire will be given targeted support as part of a £200,000 grant. Hampshire County Council has approved the spending of the Supporting Families grant, given to to 24 projects across the county that help the most vulnerable families and individuals. The scheme has been implemented to work in tandem with the council’s early help services, which identifies children and families in need as early as possible. Hampshire County Council’s executive member for performance, human resources and partnerships, Councillor Stephen Reid, approved the funding at his recent decision day.

A2Dominion City Road site shuts down and boarded up

A2Dominion’s supported housing in City Road has been boarded up and set to go on the market after the provider said it was surplus to requirements. It comes less than two months after an inquest into the death of Kesia Waller heard a wealth of issues surrounding staff and care at the supported housing. The teenager was found hanging on January 25, 2020. The inquest was told that the manager at the facility was often “threatening” and heard from Dieu-Donne Salumah, a senior support worker at City Road who failed to cut Ms Waller down, despite being urged to by a 999 call handler.

The trees outside Winchester Cathedral ABSTRACT trees created by children and young people from schools across Hampshire are now on display outside Winchester Cathedral. More than 100 trees have been designed by youngsters are over 25 schools as part of a project to spark a wider conversation about climate change, supported by Hampshire County Council. The interactive ‘Climate Change Forest’ art installation is adorned with drawings, sculptures, and recyclable and upcycled items such as plastic bottles and reclaimed wood, and can be viewed outside the cathedral until July 5. Each abstract tree on display has been created by pupils ranging from Year R to Year 11 from schools across Hampshire, and focuses on specific environmental issues pupils have chosen, from deforestation to carbon emissions, rising sea levels, air pollution, animal extinction and plastic production.
