PHILIPSBURG: - On Thursday, 7 May 2021, University of St. Martin (USM) President Dr. Antonio Carmona Báez and Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. Rolinda Carter welcomed the first and third vice-presidents of the Collectivité de Saint-Martin to the university campus at Philipsburg.
Madame Vice-President Valerie Damaseau, third Vice-President for Education, Madame Sofia Carti-Codrington, and their assistants set foot on USM campus last Thursday morning to engage in an introductory meeting with the university administrators and to explore the possibilities for USM to enhance its services to the local population living in the French territory.
Dr. Carmona reminded the French side authorities that USM was founded in 1989 to serve the entire island (Sint Maarten/Saint-Martin) and that it has grown from being a training school in hospitality to a full-fledged institution of higher education and research. PHILIPSBURG: - On February 28, 2021, the Governor of Sint Maarten, His Excellency drs. E.B. Holiday, announced he will be hosting the second annual Governor’s Youth Awards For Excellence Program.
The Governor’s Youth Award for Excellence will be awarded to youths who have attained a level of excellence in the selected fields greater than that achieved by others, or whose performances have been so exceptional that these achievements have identified them as being clearly outstanding from others. The selected fields are Academics, Arts, Sports, Community Service, and Environmental Protection. Selected nominees, their parents, and their nominators will be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony. Winners will receive their Youth Award for Excellence at the Award Ceremony on June 24, 2021.

Harbour View: -The Governor of Sint Maarten, His Excellency drs. E.B. Holiday, announced he will be hosting the second annual Governor’s Youth Awards For Excellence Program. Governor Holiday considers it important for young people to develop the qualities required to take an active and constructive role in Sint Maarten. The Governor believes that cultivating an attitude of excellence is instrumental to developing such qualities. The Governor’s Youth Award for Excellence Program has therefore been designed to recognize youths, ages 13 through 19, who have performed above and beyond and excelled in specific fields in our community. PHILIPSBURG: - The Ministers of Curacao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten and the Dutch Ministry of Education Culture and Science (OCW) to strengthen the teacher training in the Caribbean part of the kingdom.
On February 8 and 9 2020, a delegation consisting of representatives from the Teachers Training Institute in Aruba IPA and OCW on Bonaire had meetings with the various stakeholders in Education on St. Maarten.
This visit was to appraise the Educational stakeholders on St. Maarten of the existence and the developments of Kibrahacha as well as to establish if there are any needs concerning teacher training and or further team development. It was also to indicate if there are any specific needs for St Maarten to be part of this partnership.
