Residents of Lockleaze are demanding âmore than just housesâ as 1000 new homes are set to be built across 25 developments in the neighbourhood. They say that âno where near enough is being doneâ to support the wellbeing and social needs of both current and future residents.
The 25 developments include a 180-house development on Bonnington Walk, 268 homes on the former Romney House school site, and 50 flats in place of the Cameron Centre and ex-police station on Gainsborough Square.
But the 120 member-strong Lockleaze Residents Planning Group, set up to influence developments in the area, say you need more than houses to have a community.
Council plans to build 600 affordable homes in Bristol – this is where bristolpost.co.uk - get the latest breaking news, showbiz & celebrity photos, sport news & rumours, viral videos and top stories from bristolpost.co.uk Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday newspapers.
EXCLUSIVE: Council-owned housing company to transform bonded warehouses
By Martin Booth, Tuesday Mar 2, 2021
A tightrope strung between two historic bonded warehouses was the centrepiece of the launch event for Bristol’s year as European Green Capital as a daredevil cyclist traversed across the 120-metre long span.
A and B bond warehouses have for more than a century stood as permanent reminders of Bristol’s days as a port that imported goods from across the world.
Now, as part of the plans for the controversial Western Harbour development, the two imposing buildings could soon be getting new leases of life with hundreds of homes within their distinctive red brick shells.
Successful night for Romney House at the Bristol Property Awards
By Bristol24/7, Monday Feb 22, 2021
Formerly the location of Lockleaze school, Goram Homes’ first development in Cheswick village was the winner of the ‘Deal’ category as well as the ‘Green Initiative’ category at the Bristol Property Awards.
The site was developed in partnership with regeneration specialist Vistry Partnerships, delivering 121 market sale homes and 147 affordable homes that are made up of a mix of social rent and shared ownership.
The site will have a community park, which will act as a wildlife corridor from Stoke Park through to Concorde Way. Judges at the event congratulated on Romney House’s focus on sustainability, saying “This housing initiative is delivering a sustainable future for the Lockleaze community with a smart focus on building permeability solutions. Vital work putting the environment first.”
