During the May monthly meeting of the Clayton Fire Co., Fire Police Officer and Life Member Ron Burnett was named the April Member of the Month.
Each month, the fire company takes time to recognize one of its members for going above and beyond for the month. The member receives a certificate ad a $50 gift card, this member does not always have to attend the most alarms, trainings, functions or other company events. Officers look at the “big picture” when selecting members of the month, taking a number of factors into account.
Burnett is a 27-year member of the company, and remains one of its most active members.

Veterans, become a Delivery Service Partner with Amazon
Your next mission starts with ownership
After service, many Veterans find themselves asking the question: What’s next? Serving in the military is a commitment that provides a sense of mission and service that is unparalleled in most other careers.
For many Veterans, it can be a daunting task to think about what your next mission will be. Taking time to explore yourself and discovering your passions and motivations can help you find a new path that provides a way to make an impact and serve your community.
In the case of two former Air Force members, Ron Burnett and Susan Smith, they found their new mission in owning and operating their package-delivery businesses in partnership with Amazon. The Delivery Service Partner (DSP) Program has provided them an opportunity not only to launch and scale a small business, but to lead with human connection and give back to their communities.
At a meeting on Thursday, council leader Cllr Anthony Hunt said the authority had sought to find a balance between keeping council tax rises low while protecting services. “In an ideal world we would not increase council tax, but we have got a responsibility to keep services running otherwise some of the most vulnerable people in our communities would suffer,” he said. “It’s not an easy choice. It’s not a choice that any councillor makes readily.” The proposal was attacked by Independent councillor Jason O’Connell who said the council had not done enough to mitigate the rise.
“He was a loving man at home as well. He loved his family and his friends. “He was generally a kind person and he has left a big hole in his family’s life that will never be filled.” Cllr Williams, who had two sons and a daughter, also had a love for animals and had a flock of sheep, racing pigeons and served as a racecourse trainer. He was also known for owning a nightclub in Talywain and a bus company, BA Motors. “If people were out for the evening and they found they were stranded, they would call on Ray and no matter what time of night it was he would go out and pick them up and take them home,” Ms Yeates said.
