Rotary Club hands over $250,000 surgery equipment to foundation


Rotary Club of Lagos Palmgrove Estate has handed over modern surgical equipment worth $250,000 (Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars) to Indo Eye Foundation, the caretaker of the biggest Eye Hospital in Africa to carry out cataract surgery in Nigeria.
At the event which took place in the Eye hospital located along Murtala Mohammed International Airport, the President of the Club, Chandra Nalode handed over the equipment to the Project Manager, Indo Eye Foundation, Rotarian Mukesh Bhatt. The surgical equipment was procured with Rotary Global Grant with the support of Rotary Club of Singapore, Rotary District 9110, Rotary District 3310, Rotary District 3110 and Rotary District 1175. ....

Ten Yale seniors and a Yale College alumna have been awarded fellowships from a variety of organizations for graduate study at Oxford and Cambridge universities. These are in addition to students, previously announced in YaleNews, who have won Rhodes, Marshall, and Gates-Cambridge Scholarships.
The fellowship winners and their awards are:
Emma Brodey ’21 has been awarded the King’s-Yale Fellowship to pursue an M.Phil. in English at Cambridge University, where she will study 18th-century and Romantic literature and the history of the book. At Yale, she is an English major focusing her studies on 19th-century English lite ....

WKU student awarded Rotary Global Grant for master's degree in Taiwan

WKU student Isabel Eliassen will use a $50,000 Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Taipei, Taiwan. Eliassen’s application was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bowling Green in District 6710.
Eliassen, daughter of Ruth Hemmer and James Eliassen, is from Edgewood. After graduating with degrees in international affairs and Chinese, as well as a Mahurin Honors College self-designed degree in linguistics, she will enroll in the International Master s Program in Asia-Pacific Studies (IMAS) at National Chengchi University.
In Taiwan, Eliassen will study how the disadvantages ethnic minorities face in economic stability and quality of education in Taiwan affects their access to English language education, a project fundamental to developing effective language education programs equally available to all students in Taiwan. ....
