Davis Young, a 2020 graduate of Athens High School, was recently awarded The Silver ROTC SAR award. With it was a flag that flew over the Texas capitol.
While at AHS, he won a four year AROTC scholarship and is studying to be in the medical field. He is the son of Kevin and Amy Young of Star Harbor.
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution awards the ROTC Medal to foster the principle of the âcitizen-soldier,â exemplified by the Minutemen of Revolutionary War days. This award is presented by an SAR Chapter, State-level Society, or the National Society to ROTC or JROTC cadets who are selected for having a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing, and general excellence. ....

Lance Garcia was 10 years old when his father decided to enlist in the United States Air Force.
The Central Magnet senior’s grandfather did the same in the 1940s.
“They’ve been a big influence on me choosing the Air Force over any other branch,” said Garcia, who is one of five Rutherford County graduates enrolling in a prestigious military academy.
Garcia and Stewarts Creek High senior Matthew Sanders will be attending the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Grace Beane will be attending the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, while Dalton Jenkins and Aryanna Cargle have enrolled in the United States Military Academy at West Point. ....
