HOME INVASION: Battle Creek police are seeking charges of home invasion for a 24-year-old Battle Creek man after officers said he allegedly broke into a home in the first block of West Willard Avenue. The resident, a 30-year-old woman, called police at 2:04 a.m. Wednesday said the man began pounding on the door and calling for the woman s cousin, who is the mother of the man s children and is pregnant.The resident said the man broke through a window and entered the home and began calling for the mother of his children. She and the children were hiding in the bathtub behind a shower curtain when the man entered the bathroom and confronted the resident. She was calling 911 and the man left. Police said the man fled on foot and both police and Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies searched for him but he was able to elude officers and later returned and fled in his car.
Police & Fire: Motorcyclist injured in crash with car in Battle Creek
BIKER HURT: A 34-year-old man from Convis Township, northeast of Battle Creek, was injured Thursday when his motorcycle collided with a car on Beckley Road. Battle Creek police reported the crash at 2:30 p.m. just east of Capital Avenue. Officers said the motorcyclist was pulling from a gas station and rode into the path of a westbound car. Police said the biker was not wearing a helmet and his head hit the windshield of the car. The driver of the car, a man, 23, from Emmett Township, was not hurt. Police were assisted at the scene by Battle Creek firefighters and LifeCare Ambulance.
VERONA CRASH: A 37-year-old Battle Creek man was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo after a two-vehicle crash on Verona Road in Marshall Township just east of the Emmett Township line at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday. Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies said the Battle Creek man was westbound when he crossed the center line and sideswiped an eastbound SUV driven by a 20-year-old man from Springfield. The westbound vehicle left the road on the south side and hit a tree. The other vehicle rolled over twice in the roadway. That driver was not injured. A postal carrier who was nearby heard the crash and pulled the Battle Creek man from the wreckage. Deputies were assisted by the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, LifeCare Ambulance and the Calhoun County Road Commission. Verona Road was closed for several hours Deputies said the Battle Creek man is a suspect in several burglaries in the county. The investigation is continuing.
