The murder trial of Raymond Henry Muller came to an end Thursday without a verdict after the jury informed Superior Court Justice Lyne Décarie that they could not reach a consensus on a verdict.
It was the third time this week that the jury told Décarie it could not reach a unanimous verdict. The note the jury sent Thursday was emphatic.

The note read: “Your honour, despite our renewed efforts, we the jury did not come to a unanimous verdict. At this point, we believe that we will not come to a unanimous verdict at all.”

Dr. Joanne Liu, a pediatric emergency room physician and former international president of Doctors Without Borders, is joining the McGill University’s School of Population and Global Health as a professor “focusing on pandemic and health emergencies.” Liu, who grew up in Quebec City, got her degree in medicine at McGill in 1991. She joined Doctors Without Borders in 1996, working with Malian refugees in Mauritania, and co-ordinating aid projects around the world after natural disasters and epidemics like the Ebola outbreak in 2014. She also sits on the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response.

For the second day in a row, the jury in the murder trial of Raymond Henry Muller emerged from its sequestered deliberation and told the presiding judge in the trial they are unable to reach a consensus on a verdict.
Muller, 54, is on trial for the first-degree murder of Cedric Gagnon, a musician who disappeared in July 2018. The Crown’s theory in the case is that Muller killed Gagnon on July 4, 2018, dismembered the body and disposed of the remains in dumpsters.
