As Memorial Day approaches on Monday, May 31, a few community and government facilities will be closed or have altered schedules.

County Libraries, Recreation Centers, Parks:
All Fairfax County RECenters will operate at their regular hours.
Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site grounds will be open from noon to 4 p.m. for strolling, but all the buildings will be closed.
The E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond, and Huntley Meadows nature centers will be open from noon until 5 p.m. on May 31.
The Riverbend Park visitor center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Since Dec. 1, Robin Jordan warms water in two large stock pots, waits for the water to heat up, and crouches over the pots in her shower to give herself a bath with a washcloth.
“We have no idea what’s going on,” Jordan, said.
That’s because between 20 units twelve condominium units and eight commercial units haven’t had hot water since Dec. 1. Some go to local gyms to take showers while others turn to relatives and friends for help.
The aging building, which was built in 1963, is losing roughly 300 gallons of water per hour. And it’s unclear where the water is going, although recent assessments by maintenance staff suggest it is pooling underground. Pipes are corroding and leaking in multiple areas.
The visitor center at Riverbend Park will be open from noon to 4 p.m.
The farm at Frying Pan Farm Park will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the indoor arena will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by appointment. The visitor center at the park will be closed Monday.
Green Spring Garden’s horticultural center will be open from noon to 4:30 p.m., and its historic house will be closed.
Reston
The Reston Community Center Hunters Woods will host its 36th Annual Reston Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration with events on Saturday, Sunday and Monday that can be found online. The location will also be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday.

An exhibit featuring Chinese brush painting on silk and paper is on display at Reston Community Center Hunters Woods through Jan. 4.
The exhibit, titled “Naturescape Narrations,” features the 6,000-year-old Chinese art form with an animal-centric display.

Silent Night (10 a.m.) Enjoy a screening of Silent Night during this free event at Reston Community Center Hunters Woods. The movie features a “fact-based World War II story on Christmas Eve,” according to RCC’s website. Registration is open online.
Tuesday (Dec. 15)
Babes in the Woods (10-11 a.m.) Toddlers between the ages of 18 and 35 months can take part in this monthly activity. Due to COVID-19, the number of registered participants is limited.
