LOWVILLE â State recreational area seasonal gates in Lewis County closed by winter have been opened by spring. The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced that all seasonal access gates for the Croghan Tract, Oswegatchie and East Branch Fish Creek Conservation Easements and Watsonâs East Triangle Wild Forest are now open for the public. The recreation areas allow for multiple types of recreation activities. Only Watsonâs East Triangle Wild Forest is state-owned forest preserve land. It consists of 13,229 acres of forested rolling hill terrain in the towns of Croghan, Diana, Watson and, in Herkimer County, Webb, just inside the Adirondack Park Blue Line. About 2,240 acres of the area are wetlands. ....

Lewis, 75, of State Rt. 26, Carthage, died Friday, February 19, 2021 at his home after being stricken. Gordy was born on August 2, 1945 in Great Bend, the son of the late Harold and Rosella (Ashlaw) Lewis. He was a 1964 graduate of Carthage Central High School. He served two years in the Navy from 1966-1968. He then began his longtime employment with the St. Regis Paper Company - Champion International in Deferiet and continued until the mill closed. He then went to work on Fort Drum with LSI for nine years and retired in 2011. ....
