The City of Regina has cancelled plans for a pilot project, which was delayed due to COVID-19 and is skipping straight to the construction of permanent accessible public washrooms downtown.
“If you’ve gotta go, you gotta go,” said Coun. Bob Hawkins (Ward 2) during a city council meeting Wednesday. “There are people with medical conditions that need washrooms unexpectedly. There are families with young children that need washrooms.”

In October 2019, the previous council approved a five-month pilot project to test out standalone washrooms in Pat Fiacco Plaza (formerly City Square Plaza). The project was supposed to begin in the spring of 2020, but was put on hold because of the pandemic. Since then, administration has had issues getting an accessible washroom trailer in order to move forward
