The City of Galesburg Parks and Rec department has been busy firing up their facilities for summer. Since Saturday the splash pads at Kiwanis and Rotary Parks have been opened. Also open now is the Lake Storey Beach swimming area as well as boat rentals. Parks and Rec Director Tony Oligney-Estill says "Last year COVID brought insurmountable challenges to operating some of our normal recreational facilities." He adds that while this year has presented a few hurdles, the department's pleased that all of the typical summer facilities will be open this summer. Open starting Wednesday are wading pools at some City parks including HT Custer, ON Custer and Lincoln Park. Then this Friday Lakeside Water Park which was never able to open last summer will finally welcome guests. Patrons should note that until Illinois enters Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan there may be modifications to the normal entry producer. Those changes might include reserved entry times.
