Riverton Police constable Daryl Williams said the offenders seemed to be determined and well-equipped, so the theft was not just simply opportunistic. The items stolen have been small easily consumable items such as kitchen utensils, grocery items, tools and fishing gear through to larger more expensive items such as vehicle batteries, solar inverter batteries, gas cookers and pot-belly stoves. It was important valuables were removed from huts, particularly at weekends and during off-season periods, Williams said. At a minimum, he encouraged whitebaiters to make sure huts were locked. Police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity between July 9 and 16 to contact them.
