Geelong have surged into second spot on the AFL ladder with a comprehensive 38-point win over Richmond, driving another dagger into the reigning premiers finals hopes.
Patrick Dangerfield, Cam Guthrie and Tom Hawkins were at the heart of the Cats dominance in the second quarter as they piled on five unanswered goals to set up the 15.5 (95) to 8.9 (57) victory at the MCG on Sunday.
It was Geelong s second big win over the Tigers in as many meetings this season - following a 63-point thrashing in round eight - after being overrun in the second half of last year s grand final.

In his 14th season with Richmond, there are signs creeping in that Trent Cotchin is beginning to slow down.
There are a number of things it could be - a lack of motivation after three flags in four seasons, years of combative footy catching up with him or simply just a form slump.
Cotchin, 31, had just 13 disposals in Sunday’s loss to Collingwood and is averaging below 19 touches per game in 2021.
Former Tigers assistant coach and three-time Brisbane flag winner Justin Leppitsch went through something similar to the triple premiership captain late in his own career.

Why there is a sense of familiarity about Richmondâs season
By
The 2021 season, so far, hasnât panned out perfectly for the Richmond Football Club.
There has been a smattering of off-field incidents, a few cups of apparent hubris, a teaspoon or two of âwhingingâ, a dose of injury, and a sprinkle of subpar form.
But that would be a pessimistâs view.
There has also been a tablespoon of youth development and just a few ounces of previous premiership form.
When it comes to the Tigers, it is seldom a five-star work of art that feeds the masses, yet a rustic combination of chaos, system and sacrifice that draws the crowds and gets the results.
