Add another chapter to the epic Duke-Loyola postseason series.
With the game tied 9-9 and about :60 remaining in the first overtime period, Duke attackman Joe Robertson gathered the ball for his team’s second OT possession. He squared up Kyle LeBlanc, a Loyola defender who’d been injured since the Hounds’ game vs. Army on April 10, turned down a screen from Michael Sowers, got topside and sold out. Falling down, he put a sidearm shot into the ground. It bounced over Loyola goalie Sam Shafer’s left shoulder as his stick head dug into the ground.
“I think when the game’s on the line, that’s my favorite part,” Robertson said. “That’s what makes it exciting. That’s why athletes compete because you have a chance to lose. You’ll be more upset if you didn’t take a shot than if you miss a shot or it gets saved.”
