The University of Idaho Department of Theatre Arts, along with the Department of History and the LGBTQ Office, are presenting a one-night-only livestream reading of The Damn Horse: Stories of the Gay Rodeo. Directed by guest artist Gregory Hinton, this play is based on interviews archived in the Gay Rodeo Oral History Project, which aims to keep queer histories in the American West from being lost. The material was written by University of Idaho professors Rebecca Scofield and Rovert Caisley and master of fine arts candidates Court Fund and Kendra Phillips. The play was crafted by using the “documentary” theatre technique in which dialogue is obtained from interviews, archives and news articles. After the reading is a conversation between the creative team, as well as the members of the International Gay Rodeo Association.
