The Omelette Shoppe Donates Hot Chocolate to School After Broken Boiler

9 & 10 News February 9, 2021 The boiler was fixed Tuesday morning but the temperature inside was still very cold. The principal reached out to the parent teacher organization for ideas to keep kids warm. An order was placed with The Omelette Shoppe in Traverse City for enough hot chocolate for the entire school. But when the PTO president came in to pay, the shop told her it was on the house. The restaurant said they were happy to help keep students and staff warm with more than 200 cups of hot chocolate. “When they said we’d give this to you it just, it brought me to tears, I was completely overwhelmed and just blown away by the fact that they just wanted to do this. And I said, I promise that we’ll give a shout out to you. And they’re like, no that’s not the reason for it, we’re here to help you and we know you support us,” said Rebecca Schubert, PTO President.

Dec 19, 2020 To Chris and Merrie Corbett, owners of the Blue Pelican Inn Restaurant in Central Lake, who on Sunday gave away more than 650 meals. This is the fourth year the couple offered free food. The meal included ham, turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, stuffing, and pumpkin and apple pie. Restaurant front-end manager Trisha Marr said employees volunteered their time and started cooking at 6:30 a.m. Meals were served curbside. To Craig Bauer and Ray Fisher, among the 22 people in Michigan named 2020 Assistant Football Coaches of the Year by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association. It is the first time is quite awhile that two area coaches won the honor the same season. Fisher works in Kingsley, Bauer at Traverse City St. Francis. Other recent winners from the area include Stan Pasch (Suttons Bay) in 2019, Kevin Kent (Lake City) in 2018 and Kurt Gillespie (McBain) in 2017.

Old Mission Peninsula School Hosts Scavenger Hunt to Keep Students Engaged

9 & 10 News December 14, 2020 The “12 Days of Christmas” is no longer just a song At Old Mission Peninsula School. They are using the classic as a theme to encourage people to get outside and have some fun. Parents at the school came up with a scavenger hunt to help students with math and to give families something to do together. Now through the school’s holiday break, you can walk down the trail to find related items while singing the song. The president of the PTO, Rebecca Schubert, says with the pandemic it’s important to find ways to get out and have some fun.
