And now, skateboarding
The Hermosa Beach Museum is pleased to announce the opening of Skateboarding Then, an exhibition about the rise of skateboarding in Hermosa Beach and the South Bay. The exhibit will include photographs, objects from the private collection of Cindy Whitehead, and skateboarding film from Gerard Ravel.
Skateboarding in Hermosa Beach is a common thread through several generations, from the individuals in the community who pioneered the sport to today’s youth. This exhibition features a glimpse into the world that was ‘skateboarding then’.

The April 11 event was organized by Brianna Egan, an MPH nutrition student at Loma Linda University who is working on a project to start a community garden in Redondo Beach; and Jerome Chang, an architect and business owner who recently ran for school board in Redondo Beach and is working to increase voter turnout and engagement for upcoming elections.

Rally in Solidarity with South Bay AAPI Community

REDONDO BEACH “Stand up against anti-Asian hate, stand together in solidarity against racism and xenophobia” is the theme of a rally to be held Sunday, April 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd.
Hate crimes and assaults targeting Asian Americans are on the rise over the past year, correlated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Anti-Asian hate crimes surged by 149% in 2020 in an analysis of hate crime data in 16 of the largest cities in the U.S. (CSU San Bernardino). Self-reporting tools from various AAPI organizations have recorded over 4,000 incidents since February 2020.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has identified the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center as a potential location for distributing COVID-19 vaccines, first to healthcare practitioners in Los Angeles and ultimately to the general public. Depending on how negotiations between the city and county pan out, the MPOD (Medical Point of Dispensing) could become operational as early as Wednesday.
