RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTOC) - A drive through Richmond Hill may not have the same historical feel as other towns, but several markers tell a different story.
The Richmond Hill Historical Society is offering a trolley tour around town to highlight some of the sights and the stories tied to its most famous part-time resident.
âIf you sort of stop and look, the white wood buildings tend to be our Ford buildings,â Richmond Hill History Museum Exec. Director Jennifer Grover said. âThe white fence thatâs outside of our museum right now, thatâs the trademark Ford fence that he put in the area.â

Tough but humble, passionate about what she cares for, about what she loves, is how I see this woman whom I know as a friend, as an artist, and as a “power” behind so much that has helped Richmond Hill to be recognized as an art community, an historical location of repute and an important tourism site.
Sarah Volker always wanted to draw.
She drew on walls as a child, and now has been honored for drawing this time something she has and is doing effectively on the walls of the Roots and Shoots classroom at the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens.

I’ve known Danny Brown for years but just to have a quick conversation, mostly to smile at each other, wave or say hello. I’d heard about his incredible “way” with history, love of the field…history of the World Wars, the Ford Era, the Indians who peopled Bryan County but particularly Civil War history.
What better place to tell history from the Civil War period then here in Bryan County which is steeped in its history. Fort McAllister, our historic state park, was the southernmost and most active Confederate fortification in Savannah’s defenses on our Ogeechee River and the end of Sherman’s march to the sea.

There are older stories here along Bryan County’s marshes and creeks and river, to be sure.
The Guale Indians were in this part of the world as recently as the 1600s, and the Spanish and English and Africans followed. There were rice plantations and slavery, and a bloody war that ultimately spelled the end of both.
