STEUBENVILLE The Jefferson County Health District is looking for county help coming up with the final $50,000 needed for its new Wellness on Wheels project.
At Thursday’s meeting of the county commissioners, Health Commissioner Andrew Henry said they’d secured an $85,000 grant from the J.C. Williams Trust in August for the mobile medical unit, and also allocated about $40,000 in COVID-19 funding.
Henry told commissioners they need to plug the funding gap by August or return the grant money.
Wellness on Wheels would take medical services including lab testing, vaccines, wellness screenings and health promotion on the road, reaching Jefferson County residents who otherwise might not be able to access them.

Association holds meeting
SMITHFIELD Frank Santa presided when the Jefferson County Veterans Association met recently at the Friendship Park office.
A meeting in February had been canceled because of inclement weather.
Members are working on plans for pouring concrete for a walk around the front of the Memorial Wall that bears the names of more than 600 veterans who served from the Civil War through present time.
A donation of flowers from the Sons of the American Legion Post No. 682 in Hopedale will be added along the wall in the spring.
Plans are to paint the picnic shelter on the grounds of the Veterans Memorial Park. The shelter is used for meetings and to place the sound equipment for the two programs held during the year.

I’m not entirely sure why I had some thoughts this past week about a time capsule.
But of all things to think about and crowd my head for room and attention, there it was.
My only connection to such things is having written a few stories about them in the past.
What prompts them being created or unearthed is that a special occasion is being acknowledged or something new is being built or, in other cases, something old is being torn down, and there it is ta-da!!!
