BRITTEN TO RETIRE AS PUNXSY’S ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT By John Smathers Jun 4, 2021 | 4:17 PM The Punxsutawney Area school board received the retirement notice of assistant superintendent Richard Britten at Thursday’s meeting. Superintendent, Dr. Thomas Lesniewski said Britten’s retirement is effective August 6 and noted the good work Britten has done for the district over the years. In other business: Lisa Goth of Leach Insurance gave the board an update noting that she received updated proposals from two other companies offering competitive quotes – giving board members more options to consider. Business Manager Susan Robertson said the board will have two choices when it comes to the 2021-22 budget – one with a tax increase and one without in the amount of $49,976,250.

Plans for new homes on Firs Road, Alderbury, criticised

Firs Road plans PLANS to build 50 new homes in Alderbury have been criticised as bland, urban and somewhat monotonous . Submitted by Vistry Homes, the plans are for the erection of 50 residential dwellings, pumping station and replacement guide hut with associated infrastructure, parking, landscaping, open space and works , on land off Firs Road. The proposals are for five two-bedroom houses, 22 three-bed and 12 four-bed (open market), and five two-bed, five three-bed, and one four-bed (affordable). Firs Road plans The land was previously occupied by Alderbury Football Club. New football changing rooms and facilities have been approved for Alderbury FC to the north east of the site with a new access route from Firs Road.

Salisbury locals still advised not to pick litter over novichok fears

Last modified on Wed 7 Apr 2021 13.28 EDT Health officials have refused to rescind guidance to people living in and around Salisbury not to pick up litter, as fears linger over the dangers posed by the novichok poisonings more than three years ago. Local leaders have called for people in rural areas surrounding the city to be allowed to resume litter picking so they can clean up those areas. But Public Health England said it could not be sure it was safe. “As a precaution, PHE continues to advise the public not to pick up any items. The advice remains ‘if you didn’t drop it then don’t pick it up’,” a spokesperson said.
