BRASILIA (Reuters) -Brazil’s lower house of Congress is expected to vote on tax reform next week, with the bill likely be amended to exclude certain small companies’ profit and dividend taxes, senior lawmakers steering the process said on Wednesday.
Voting on the stage of the bill aimed at simplifying and lowering personal, income taxes and levies on corporate profits will take place when Congress returns from recess next week, Speaker Arthur Lira told GloboNews.
Speaking in Brasilia, deputy Celso Sabino, the bill’s sponsor in the lower house, said small firms registered with the “Simples” tax regime will likely be exempt from paying tax on profits and dividends.

BRASILIA, May 19 (Reuters) - Brazil s health minister said on Wednesday he had spoken with Moderna about buying its COVID-19 vaccine, as the country scrambles for shots from producers passed over last year.
Separately, the health regulator Anvisa said it had received an emergency use request late on Tuesday from Belcher Farmaceutica, the Brazilian representative of China s CanSino Biologics, and it would take up to seven days to make a decision, if the papers are in order.

BRASILIA, April 29 (Reuters) - Brazil s Senate on Thursday approved a bill to suspend patent protection for COVID-19 vaccines, tests and medications during the pandemic, sending the proposal to the lower house of Congress for consideration and possible amendments.
It remains unclear if lower house lawmakers will pass the bill, with implications for pharmaceutical firms such as AstraZeneca and China s Sinovac Biotech, which have arranged local production of their COVID-19 vaccines.
U.S. firm Pfizer also made its first delivery of coronavirus vaccines to Brazil on Thursday evening.
