Maine College of Art to hold in-person graduation May 16 Share Maine College of Art will host in-person commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. May 16 at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, conferring approximately 125 degrees to graduates of the college’s bachelor of fine arts, master of fine arts and master of art in teaching programs. Artist Sonya Clark will deliver a commencement address and receive an honorary degree from Maine College of Art. Courtesy of MECA Artist and activist Sonya Clark, perhaps best known for using human hair in her artworks about race and class, will deliver remarks. MECA will give honorary degrees to Clark, a professor of art at Amherst College in Massachusetts and visiting artist at MECA, and to philanthropist Daniel N. Crewe.

TEL AVIV .-The Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Foundation, which has been awarding an annual prize of approximately $120,000 to two artists since 2006, has decided, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, to reconfigure the prize this year as a dedicated $250,000 fund for the purchase of art works. The art works will be purchased for the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Israeli Art Collection at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, which comprises works by Rappaport Award winners over the years, and will be on display at a special exhibition to be opened at the Museum in August 2021.

Large-scale, immersive works by the textile artist Sonya Clark will be on view in Sonya Clark: Heavenly Bound, which Clark developed specially for deCordova, and Sonya Clark: Monumental Cloth, The Flag We Should Know, organized by The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia. Concurrent with both Sonya Clark presentations, the collection-based exhibition, What We Do in the Shadows, examines the dynamics of visibility and marginalization in political activism.
