Superstock Sidecar Champions Kieran Payne and Asher Rees take the winners lap.
Five of New Zealand’s top superstock drivers proved they were more than capable sidecar swingers at the Robertson Holden Speedway on Saturday night. A dare between sidecar organiser Tony Hislop and Palmerston North Panthers as well as former New Zealand champion William Humphries at last years Speedway prizegiving put the pressure on for the superstock drivers to front up. “William had us sidecar guys on last year about swinging on a sidecar and I said to him lets see you have a go,” sidecar organiser Hislop said.
Fans will still get to see hometown sprintcar driver and double former national champion, the retiring Jamie Larsen, race for the final time at the Robertson Holden Speedway before he competes for the final time in a sprintcar on Sunday at Harrisville. New Zealand champion Michael Pickens and 2NZ Johnathan Allard will also race. At the last sprintcar meeting at Palmerston North, Larsen passed Allard on the final corner of the 20-lap feature to win the North Island title a fortnight ago. Unfortunately Robertson said the streetstocks won t return on Saturday, as they headed to Meeannee, Napier for the second round of their series before racing at Rotorua on Sunday.
A late about-face hasn't removed the sour taste left in the mouths of Teams Champs' attendees, forced to scramble to find somewhere to stay during the popular annual event.

SPEEDWAY: Luke Miers finally had the luck run his way to dominate the Brent Lowe Memorial Stockcar title at the Robertson Holden Speedway in Palmerston North. The sought-after title named after the hard-hitting stockcar driver who died in an accident on Christmas Eve 2015 drew a massive field of more than 50 cars, with qualifying before a one-race final on Monday. Without doubt Miers has been the stockcar class’ outstanding driver over the past season, but has often suffered from flat tyres or cars spinning out of control in front of him. But on this occasion he had everything go his way as he cruised to a relatively untroubled win in his impressive new Peter Rees car.
