Adelaide Autumn Carnival today with Oaks Day at Morphettville, plus live action from Hawkesbury and Sandown Hillside.
Bruce McAvaney will again lead the commentary team, joined by Jason Richardson (pictured), Michelle Payne and Henry Dwyer.
The Adelaide Autumn Carnival is one of the annual highlights on the Australian racing calendar, and Morphettville will come alive on Saturday when the Group 1 Australasian Oaks and Robert Sangster Stakes headline a glittering day of thoroughbred racing.
Some of the nation’s best fillies will take centre stage in the Australasian Oaks (2000m), where rising star Steinem looms as the horse to beat. However, unbeaten Tasmanian fan favourite Hela will be looking to extend her streak of seven consecutive wins in her first start on the mainland, and impressive last-start winner Brookspire is aiming to give master trainer Chris Waller back-to-back Oaks wins after Toffee Tongue’s 2020 victory.

South Australia will command a fair slice of racing’s national spotlight when the prestigious Adelaide Racing Carnival (May 1-15) kicks off this Saturday with two Group 1 races.
The TAB Classic for fillies and mares over 1200m (Robert Sangster Stakes) and Australasian Oaks for three-year-old fillies, both worth $502,250, have attracted strong nominations from local and interstate stables.
Among the likely Oaks’ runners is the Scott Brunton-trained rising star Hela, unbeaten from its seven starts, since debuting in October last year Hela has won all races in Tasmania, most recently winning a handicap over 1600m on April 14.
The daughter of Night of Thunder faces a big step up in class if she takes her place in the field but trainer Brunton said after Hela’s recent win it was all systems go. “She did what I expected her to do (last Sunday) and now we have to keep her ticking over and hope we can get her to South Australia safe and sound,’’ he said.

The Wizard of the West will continue his association with the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Sisstar in the TAB Classic (1200m), also known as the Robert Sangster Stakes, on May 1.
He piloted the improving mare, which is a full-sister to the McEvoys’ former superstar Sunlight, to victory last Saturday in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.
