As number of fresh COVID-19 cases from Radhapuram area is on the rise, special vaccination camps are being organised in Radhapuram and Thisaiyanvilai taluks. Inaugurating a special vaccination camp at Thisaiyanvilai on Friday, Speaker M. Appavu said vaccination was being done actively across the district to save the public from COVID-19. While 1.80 lakh persons had been vaccinated in the district till Thursday (May 27), only 3,000 persons from Radhapuram area had received the vaccination and hence special camps were being organised in Radhapuram Assembly constituency to protect everyone from the viral infection.

The linking of Tamirabharani – Karumeniyar – Nambiyar, being executed on an outlay of ₹872.45 crore to take the surplus waters to the southern regions of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts by digging a 73-km-long flood carrier channel, will be completed before the northeast monsoon, Assembly Speaker M. Appavu has said.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday after inspecting the fourth phase of the river-linking project at Ponnakudi, Perumal Nagar, Munanjipatti and a few more areas on Friday, he said the fourth phase of the project started in August last year and would be completed before the northeast monsoon (October-end). About 80% of the work, which was started in 2008 – 2009, had been completed.

CHENNAI: The Speaker and Deputy Speaker were elected unanimously for the State’s 16th Assembly and they took charge on Wednesday. To elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, the secretary of the Assembly had invited applications from the elected representatives. Following this, M Appavu and K Pitchandi, both belonging to DMK, submitted their applications on Tuesday and were elected unanimously.
