Affordable housing for the poor Affordable housing for the poor ByY Maheswara ReddyY Maheswara Reddy / Updated: May 26, 2021, 06:00 IST V Somanna announced on Tuesday that Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will hand over 5,000 houses to people below the poverty line (BPL) in Bengaluru on August 15. revenue department and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials, at Vidhana Soudha, Minister Somanna said that they discussed handing over 445 acres of the government’s land to the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation to implement the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme. “The construction of 46,000 multi-storied houses on 316 acres of land, under the One Lakh Housing Scheme, is in various stages. The Chief Minister will hand over 5,000 houses to the poor on August 15,’’ said the minister.

162 houses handed over to Kodagu flood victims

Madikeri: After a long delay amidst losing hope and living in despair, 2018 flood victims of Kodagu district have finally got houses of their own, built by the State Government. The victims have either completely lost their houses due to floods and landslides or the destruction of houses was to such an extent of beyond repairs.  In 2018 and 2019, unprecedented rains triggered by cloudbursts, floods and landslides brought untold misery to the people of Kodagu and over 30 percent of land in Madikeri and Somwarpet taluks was destroyed in previously unheard of havoc that was unleashed by nature, rendering hundreds of people homeless.
