Round one of the 2021 Cross-Country Rallies World Championship season at the Rally Kazakhstan saw Yamaha Racing’s Ross Branch setting the fastest time on the first of five stages and heading home three Yamaha Racing riders inside the top five.
Branch, who also posted the fastest in yesterday’s very short prologue, opened the 515 kilometre stage one today which featured 280km of timed special. Barring a few small mistakes, the Botswanan rider built up a comfortable lead to complete the stage with a two-minute gap over second-placed Matthias Walkner. The victory marks Ross’ first ever stage win in the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship.
The FIM Cross-Country Rallies season kicks into gear this coming week, June 8-13, with round one of the 2021 World Championship at the Rally Kazakhstan – Red Bull KTM Racing Factory Rally Team’s Sam Sunderland finally begins his title defence.
The opening round of the 2021 Hard Enduro World Championship has arrived at last with three days of action at Extreme XL Lagares in Portugal this weekend. With no form book and only one major extreme race in 18 months, victory at the inaugural HEWC event is anyone’s for the taking.
It arrives a full 18 months after Manuel Lettenbichler won the World Championship formerly known as WESS in November 2019. Some are calling this weekend a historic moment in our sport. At Enduro21 we’re just calling it a goddam relief to finally be witnessing some topflight Extreme Enduro action on the infamous rocky riverbeds of Lagares.
