Igloos, shanties, huts and more: Where to dine outdoors in Michigan this winter

Igloos have been popping up like mushrooms, shanty towns are being constructed, greenhouses are serving new purposes, and even a yurt or two have arrived in Michigan. These are just a few of the examples of how Michigan restauranteurs have been getting creative with outdoor dining spaces.
Restaurants have been shut down for indoor dining for the second time in 2020, this time since December 7. Restrictions will remain on indoor dining until January 15, per the current order from the Michigan Health Department.

ROCKFORD, Mich. On Tuesday Dec.15, The City of Rockford closed off one of its downtown main streets for two days in order to start constructing a small weatherization project that they named R.O.R.A.
R.O.R.A. stands for Rockford Outdoor Refreshment Area.
The city manager, Thad Beard, told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that it was an extension of the city s social zones and something the city was known to do in the summer along with its chamber of commerce.
