LAHORE: Distinguished actor Begum Khurshid Shahid, who was mother of noted actor Salman Shahid, passed away in Lahore on Sunday following cardiac arrest. She was 95.
Her funeral prayers were offered at Phase 2, T Block, Defense mosque, while her burial was held in Phase-7 graveyard. The funeral was attended by friends and family.
Salman Shahid told Dawn that his mother was born in Delhi. She also learnt classical singing from seasoned singers of her time. She started appearing in plays from early days of the Pakistan Television (PTV). Her first TV play was a comedy ‘Ras Malai’. Later, she rendered memorable performances in many long plays aired by the state-run organisation, many of them written by Ashfaq Ahmed and his wife Bano Qudsia. Her famous TV plays include Fehmida Ki Kahani Ustani Rahat Ki Zubani, Kiran Kahani, Zair Zabar Pesh, Uncle Urfi and Dhund. She also did a few films such as Chingari and Bhola Sajan. She was awarded Pride of Performance in 199os.
Playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed said Shahid was perhaps the last figure from the classical school of acting.

Islamabad (Online): Usman Peerzada is a famous actor and one of the co-founders of Rafi Peer Theater. He married to the famous actress Samina Peerzada in 1975 and together they have two daughters Anum and Amal Peerzada.
Usman Peerzada has done countless dramas, films and theater plays.
Recently, the legendary actor has appeared in a show where he talked about his marriage.
Talking about marriage, he said, ”Samina’s niece was working with me, she was playing my daughter’s role. I met Samina through her niece. Later on, we met for a few times and it was Samina who proposed to me and said marry me or go away and never come back.”
LAHORE: Internationally acclaimed dholia (drummer) Goonga Sain passed away due to a heart attack here on Monday. He was 51.
According to his close aides, Goonga was suffering from cardiac issues for the past few months. He was laid to rest in Lahore in his ancestral graveyard.
Goonga started his career with the legendary Pappu Sain as a young boy and was then introduced by the Rafi Peer Theatre for the first time in their production, ‘Patay Khan’, in 1992. He played regularly at the shrine of Shah Jamal and as part of the weekly ritual to pay tribute to the Sufi saint.
