83 million people worldwide benefited from Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives’ AED1.2 billion humanitarian, social projects in 2020 Format DUBAI, 3rd May, 2021 (WAM) More than 83 million people in 82 countries benefited from Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives’ (MBRGI) humanitarian and social projects in 2020, the foundation’s annual report has revealed. Amid the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, MBRGI, the region’s largest philanthropic foundation, carried out AED1.2 billion worth of humanitarian, social and developmental projects to aid the vulnerable and empower disadvantaged communities in the face of the biggest health crisis of the century. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the Year in Review 2020 in a special event, held at The Union House in Dubai, to highlight the far-reaching influence of MBRGI’s initiatives and activities during 2020.

Smart Dubai announces latest updates on progress of Dubai Paperless Strategy DUBAI, 1st March, 2021 (WAM) Smart Dubai revealed the progress 41 government entities have made in implementing the Dubai Paperless Strategy, where they sought to reduce their paper consumption by half within the first six months of joining the effort, and continue moving forward towards 100 percent digitisation by the end of 2021. The figures were announced during a virtual session Smart Dubai organised with Abdulla Al Basti, Secretary-General of The Executive Council of Dubai; Younus Al Nasser, Assistant Director-General of Smart Dubai, CEO of the Dubai Data Establishment, and Wesam Lootah, CEO of the Smart Dubai Government Establishment, in attendance, along with Directors-General and officials from government entities that are taking part in implementing the Dubai Paperless Strategy.

Photo: Collected It is heartening to note that discussion is taking place after the release of the 4th edition of the Global Knowledge Index (GKI), jointly produced by the UNDP and Dubai-based Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation. Bangladesh ranked low in GKI among 138 countries. Dr. Saleemul Huq, Director of the ICCCAD at IUB, in an op-ed in The Daily Star on December 30 rightly stressed the need for a national consensus to make the necessary paradigm shift to transform Bangladesh into a knowledge economy over the next decade.
