The key equity barometers reversed gains and slipped into the negative terrain in morning trade. The Nifty, however, managed to hold above the 15,550 mark. Metal shares corrected after a three-day wining streak.
At 10:22 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 93.56 points or 0.18% to 51,843.88. The Nifty 50 index lost 26.20 points or 0.17% to 15,556.60.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index shed 0.33% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index declined 0.35%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1265 shares rose and 1484 shares fell. A total of 114 shares were unchanged.
COVID-19 Update:
Total COVID-19 confirmed cases worldwide stood at 170,593,575 with 3,547,205 global deaths.
The Sensex declined further and hit fresh intraday low in mid-morning trade. The Nifty managed to hold above the 15,000 mark. Metal shares witnessed profit booking after a two-day rising streak.
At 11:28 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 148.52 points or 0.30% to 50,044.81. The Nifty 50 index lost 37.15 points or 0.25% to 15,070.95.
The broader market was trading higher. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index gained 0.61% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.51%.
The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 1704 shares rose and 1075 shares fell. A total of 146 shares were unchanged.

The key equity indices further pared losses in mid-afternoon trade. Metal shares reversed early losses. At 14:26 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 829.91 points or 1.66% to 49,199.92. The Nifty 50 index tumbled 223.60 points or 1.50% to 14,643.75.
The undertone of the market was still weak as a spike in domestic coronavirus cases and fresh curbs imposed by the state government dented investors sentiment.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index slipped 1.29% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index declined 1.04%.
The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 949 shares rose and 1920 shares fell. A total of 186 shares were unchanged.
