COVID-19 in WNC: Focus turns to vaccine distribution as cases stabilize in region
As new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations stabilize following a surge in viral transmission over the holiday season, the focus in North Carolina is turning to vaccines.
The first shots hit the first arms in Buncombe County in late December, and since, county health officials, Mission Health and other providers have administered tens of thousands of vaccine doses, though tens of thousands are still waiting for their shots.
While supplies remain limited, the recent approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and newly added providers are speeding up the vaccine rollout.
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, North Carolina (WLOS ) A Rutherfordton man has been arrested and charged with multiple sex offenses against minors from as far back as the 1980s.
Claude Linden Keever, 85, has been charged with multiple sex offenses against minors that occurred from the 1980s to the present in both Polk and Rutherford Counties in North Carolina.
In Polk County, Keever is charged with 2 counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and one count of first-degree statutory sex offense. His next court date in Polk County is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 22, 2021.
In Rutherford County, Keever is charged with 7 counts of felony indecent liberties with a child. His next court appearance in Rutherford County is scheduled for Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

State Senator Shane Reeves (R-Murfreesboro) has been reappointed vice-chairman of the Senate Health and Welfare Committee and as a member of the prestigious Senate Commerce and Labor Committee. The appointments were made by Lt. Governor Randy McNally as lawmakers wrapped up organizational duties for the 2021-2022 legislative sessions.
The Commerce and Labor Committee hears legislation dealing with economic development, banking, business, insurance, communications, consumer affairs, occupational licensing and employment matters. Due to the scope of legislation considered there it is considered one of the most powerful committees in the General Assembly.
