Twenty whimsically painted bears with catchy themes and names were unveiled Thursday evening at the Hendersonville Visitors Center, drawing smiles from onlookers as the city’s 19th annual Bearfootin’ Public Art Walk and auction fundraiser got underway.
Katie Bradley, currently Assistant Principal & Athletic Director at East Henderson High (EHHS), has been named the new Principal for Hillandale Elementary. Bradley will be filling the principalship vacated by Kelly Pratt, who is moving to the N.C. Department of Public Instruction to continue her education career as the K-3 Literacy Consultant for the Western Region.
John McDaris, currently Assistant Principal & Athletic Director at West Henderson High (WHHS), will move across the street to Rugby Middle, where he will serve as the school’s new Principal. Rugby’s former principal Scott Moore moved to Central Office in March to begin his role as district Director of Middle Schools, and Jenny Moreno has served as interim principal for the remainder of the current school year.
Hendersonville High construction timeline: Projected completion dates by area
Construction of the new Hendersonville High School is nearly a year ahead of the original schedule, with a target completion date now in August 2022.
The Henderson County School Board was given news that the project was 11 months ahead of schedule during a construction update Monday.
Chief Administrative Officer Carl Taylor attributed the sped-up process to students being off campus during months of remote learning, as well as decent weather conditions.
The updated timeline for HHS shows the following completion targets:
May 22, 2021 – gyms (for graduation only)
Aug. 13 – new building (3.5 months ahead of original schedule)

Three new principals have been approved by Henderson County Public Schools for the 2021-22 school year.
