The OU Board of Regents approved changes to its general education requirements, appointed a new chairman and saw changes to university health departments Thursday afternoon as recently-appointed regent Rick Nagel
Michael Cawley was appointed chairman of the OU Board of Regents Tuesday afternoon, succeeding recently departed former regent Gary Pierson.
An Oklahoma City resident, Cawley was appointed in December 2019 following the abrupt resignation of former regent and board vice chair Renzi Stone. In a press release following his appointment, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt praised the Hooker, Oklahoma, nativeâs dedication to âserving rural Oklahoma.â
The chairman position was left vacant after Pierson finished the remainder of former regent Bill Burgessâ term. Pierson was originally appointed to finish the term after Burgess died in February 2019.
Previously, Cawley has served the board as chair of the Health and Clinical Enterprises Committee and Cameron University liaison.
Gov. Kevin Stitt announced the appointment of Acorn Growth Companies CEO and Managing Partner Rick Nagel to the OU Board of Regents on Tuesday morning.Â
According to a press release from the Governorâs office, if approved by the Oklahoma Senate, Nagel will serve a seven-year term expiring March 2028, replacing chair Gary Pierson.Â
Pierson was originally appointed in April 2019 to finish former regent Bill Burgess term after he died in February 2019. In an October 2019 lunch meeting including the seven regents, Anil Gollahalli, OU legal counsel; Drew Neville, contracted attorney; and Chris Purcell, board secretary, the OU Board of Regents selected Pierson to serve as chair effective March 2020.Â
