(Bloomberg) Tea producers in Kenya, the world’s largest exporter of the black variety of the leaves, plan to boost their use of renewable energy with new solar and hydropower output.
KTDA Power Co., a unit of Kenya Tea Development Agency, is seeking contractors for hydro-power plants able to produce as much as 10 megawatts, the agency said in a statement in the Nairobi-based Standard newspaper. The projects are at various stages of development, including four that are operational and seven under construction, it said.

Nationwide strikes in France against Macron government’s criminal response to pandemic
Nationwide strikes took place in France on Thursday over the government’s herd immunity response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the spread of a new more transmissible variant, the Macron government refused a national lockdown. The strikers also protested against low wages, growing job insecurity and deteriorating working conditions. The strike call was made by the Stalinist CGT union, along with the FSU and Solidaires unions, but France’s largest union the CFDT was not involved.
Taking part were public sector workers, including civil servants, teachers, healthcare staff along with rail and other transport workers. Limuru Tea issues profit warning

Agricultural firm Limuru Tea #ticker:LIMT expects its net profit for 2020 to decline by at least 25 per cent, citing challenges heightened by the pandemic.
In a notice to shareholders on Thursday, the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed firm said business was weighed down by low tea prices and rising cost of production amid Covid-19 economic disruptions.
Limuru Tea posted a Sh1.9 million after-tax profit in 2019, a drop from Sh2.5 million it made in 2018 after bouncing back from a loss-making streak.
“The company’s performance is expected to record a decline in the net profits attributable to the shareholders of the company for the financial year ended December 31, 2020 as compared with the audited financial results for the year ended December 31, 2019.
