Queenslandâs top tourism towns have been revealed out of a pool of 13 finalists, including two major Central Queensland locations.
And out of 22 small towns in the running, one beloved Central Queensland location made took home the prize.
Queensland Tourism Industry Councilâs Top Tourism Town Awards was held in Brisbane on Thursday, May 20 with a panel of three expert judges and public votes determining the winners.
Renowned for itâs botanical gardens, the spectacular views of Mount Archer, historical architecture and sitting on the mighty Fitzroy River, the Central Queensland hub of Rockhampton made it to the finals.

EFFORTS to drive more visitors to Ipswich appear to be working, with the city this week revealed to be a frontrunner in the search for Queenslandâs Top Tourism Town.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council this week unveiled the total 37 finalists for the award, which recognises both large and small towns across the state.
If the nominations are anything to go by, it is sure to prove a hotly contested battle.
Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Noosa, Warwick and Maryborough are among some of the 14 other âlarge top tourism townsâ vying for the title.
Meanwhile, Boonah was also nominated as a finalist in the smaller town category due to its population of less than 5000.
Rockhampton and Yeppoon are in the running to be named Queensland’s Top Tourism Town.
It is one of two awards being presented by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council to recognise the state’s outstanding destinations.
Central Queensland is well represented, with Mount Morgan, Longreach and Winton finalists in the Small Tourism Town category.
There are 37 finalists from across the state in two categories - 15 in the Top Tourism Town Award (for a town/city with a population over 5000) and 22 in the Small Tourism Town Award (for a town with a population below 5000).
QTIC chief executive Daniel Gschwind said the awards showcased the great and diverse destinations in Queensland.
